This policy explains what information we collect, why, and what we do with it. It is written to be read, not to be survived.

The short version

We collect a parent's or group leader's name and email when they apply, and an email address to grant access to the course.
The course records how long a student actively spends in each unit, and their answers within it. This stays on their own device.
We do not collect a student's name, date of birth, address or any health information. There is none in the course to collect.
We do not sell anything to anybody, and we do not advertise.

What we collect, and why

When an adult applies to the pilot

City, school and a student's age, taken together, can point to a particular young person. We ask for them because they tell us who the course is reaching, and we treat them accordingly: they are used only to run and improve the pilot, they are never published, never sold, never shared, and never combined with anything else.

The school field is optional and the course works exactly the same if you leave it blank.

This is submitted through [FORM PROVIDER], who process it on our behalf and send it to us by email. We keep it for the duration of the pilot and for [RETENTION PERIOD] afterwards, then delete it.

When a student uses the course

Each unit records active time — time when the tab is visible and the student is actually working. It pauses when they switch away or stop. It also records which screens they visited, which answers they gave, and their scores.

Nearly all of this stays on the student's own device. It is held in the browser so that progress survives closing the tab. We do not receive it, and we cannot see it unless a student or parent chooses to show us.

Two exceptions, both of which a student chooses:

Leaderboards. If a student posts a score, the handle they choose and that score become visible to other students using the course. The course tells them this before they post, and asks them not to use their real name. Nothing else is shared.
The final self-assessment. The last unit produces a summary the student can copy and give to the adult who enrolled them. It shows which paths their answers point toward and what they would find difficult — not which options they chose. Students are told this before they begin. We never see it.

What we do not collect

Student names. We never ask for one, and the course never asks a student for one
Dates of birth, street addresses or phone numbers for anybody
Any health or medical information about anyone. Every patient in the course is fictional
Location beyond the state an adult tells us
Anything from advertising networks, trackers or social media pixels — there are none

Students under 18

This course is written for students aged 14 to 18, and it is designed so that a minor never has to give us personal information.

An adult applies, not the student. A parent, guardian or group leader submits the application and confirms consent for the students in their care.
Access is granted to the adult's email address. Students are not asked to create an account, and we do not ask them for identifying details.
The course is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect information from them.

If you believe a student has given us personal information and you are their parent or guardian, write to [EMAIL] and we will delete it.

Who else is involved

We have no other integrations. There are no analytics scripts, advertising tags or social media widgets anywhere on this site.

How long we keep things

Applications — the pilot, plus [RETENTION PERIOD]
Access lists — until access is withdrawn or the pilot ends
Course progress — on the student's device until they clear it. We never hold it
Leaderboard entries — until the leaderboard is reset. Write to us to remove one

Your rights

You can ask us to show you what we hold about you, correct it, or delete it. Write to [EMAIL] and we will respond within [RESPONSE PERIOD] days.

Depending on where you live you may have further rights — including, in California, rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act to know what is collected, to delete it, and not to be discriminated against for asking. We do not sell or share personal information for advertising, and never have.

Security

The site is served over HTTPS. Access to the course is controlled by one-time codes sent to an approved email address — there are no passwords to be stolen. Applications are held in [FORM PROVIDER]'s systems and in our email.

No system is perfect. If something goes wrong that affects you, we will tell you.

Schools and co-ops

If a school or umbrella organisation enrols students, that organisation may have its own obligations — including, in the United States, under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act. We act on their instructions in respect of their students and will sign a data agreement where one is required.

Changes

If we change this policy we will update the date at the top and, where the change is significant, tell anyone taking part directly.
