Scribe Class
Last updated: [DATE] · Applies to scribecourse.com and the Explorer course
⚠️ DRAFT — NOT YET REVIEWED BY COUNSEL. Written to be accurate about what this course actually does, so an attorney has something concrete to work from. Every bracketed field must be completed and the whole document reviewed before publication. Remove this box when it has been.
This policy explains what information we collect, why, and what we do with it. It is written to be read, not to be survived.
Who we are. Scribe Class is operated by [LEGAL ENTITY NAME], [ADDRESS]. You can reach us at [EMAIL].
| What | Why |
|---|---|
| Name and email address | To reply, and to grant access to the course |
| Role — parent, co-op leader, teacher | To understand who the course reaches |
| City and state | To know where the course is being used, and which state rules apply |
| School, co-op or program (optional) | To understand which groups the course reaches. You can leave it blank |
| Number of students, their ages and grade | To check the course suits them, and that it is being used at the level it was written for |
| Why you applied, and how you heard of us | Optional. To improve the course and know where interest comes from |
City, school and a student's age, taken together, can point to a particular young person. We ask for them because they tell us who the course is reaching, and we treat them accordingly: they are used only to run and improve the pilot, they are never published, never sold, never shared, and never combined with anything else.
The school field is optional and the course works exactly the same if you leave it blank.
This is submitted through [FORM PROVIDER], who process it on our behalf and send it to us by email. We keep it for the duration of the pilot and for [RETENTION PERIOD] afterwards, then delete it.
Each unit records active time — time when the tab is visible and the student is actually working. It pauses when they switch away or stop. It also records which screens they visited, which answers they gave, and their scores.
Nearly all of this stays on the student's own device. It is held in the browser so that progress survives closing the tab. We do not receive it, and we cannot see it unless a student or parent chooses to show us.
Two exceptions, both of which a student chooses:
This course is written for students aged 14 to 18, and it is designed so that a minor never has to give us personal information.
If you believe a student has given us personal information and you are their parent or guardian, write to [EMAIL] and we will delete it.
| Service | What they do | What they see |
|---|---|---|
| Cloudflare | Hosts the site and controls who can reach the course | Email addresses granted access; standard server logs |
| [FORM PROVIDER] | Receives applications | What is on the application form |
| Google Fonts | Supplies the typefaces | The request for a font file, which includes an IP address |
We have no other integrations. There are no analytics scripts, advertising tags or social media widgets anywhere on this site.
You can ask us to show you what we hold about you, correct it, or delete it. Write to [EMAIL] and we will respond within [RESPONSE PERIOD] days.
Depending on where you live you may have further rights — including, in California, rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act to know what is collected, to delete it, and not to be discriminated against for asking. We do not sell or share personal information for advertising, and never have.
The site is served over HTTPS. Access to the course is controlled by one-time codes sent to an approved email address — there are no passwords to be stolen. Applications are held in [FORM PROVIDER]'s systems and in our email.
No system is perfect. If something goes wrong that affects you, we will tell you.
If a school or umbrella organisation enrols students, that organisation may have its own obligations — including, in the United States, under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act. We act on their instructions in respect of their students and will sign a data agreement where one is required.
If we change this policy we will update the date at the top and, where the change is significant, tell anyone taking part directly.
